2011 Notice of Race


1.  RULES

1.1 This regatta will be governed by the “Rules” as defined in the Racing rules of Sailing 2009-2012 (RRS/US).

1.2 The 2011 LSYA Regatta will consist of a total of 4 races, as shown in the schedule of races.

1.3 Each race will be run by a hosting club. The hosting clubs Notice of Race and Sailing Instructions set out for that race will be used by the LSYA racers entering that race.

2.  ENTRIES/ELGIBILITY

2.1 The regatta is open to self-righting sailing boats 20 feet in length or greater.  Each boat shall be able to be handicapped using the Lake Michigan PHRF rating system or shall be assigned a provisional handicap by the LSYA Race Committee when a boat does not have a current 2010 LM-PHRF rating certificate.  Provisional Handicaps shall not be subject to protest any ratings and will be assessed a 5% time penalty.

2.2 Completed entry forms and required fees must be submitted to the Race Committee no later than July 2, 2011.  Entry forms & fees can be submitted at the Skippers meeting of the first race.  Registration can also be done from the LSYA website instructions.

3.  FEES
                3.1 $75.00 is the fee for participation in the
                   LSYA regatta. You will be required to pay a
                 Separate fee to each hosting club for there    
                   Sponsored race, and the required fee for the
                   Trans Superior Race.

5.  SAILING INSTRUCTIONS

                5.1 The Sailing Instructions from the hosting club
                   Of that particular race will be used by LSYA
                   Racers.

6.  MEASUREMENTS

6.1 Each yacht shall be in compliance with a valid Lake Michigan handicap rating certificate as provided to the Race Committee.7.  RADIO COMMUNICATION

7.1 A boat shall neither make radio transmissions while racing nor receive radio communications not available to all boats.  This restriction also applies to mobile telephones.

8.  CREW LIMITS

8.1   A list of crew names, addresses and phone numbers must be filed with the Race Committee at the skippers meeting.

8.2 The minimum crew shall be three persons in addition to the skipper.

9.  EQUIPMENT

                9.1 All boats shall have a working motor.

9.2 While racing, all boats shall carry the minimum safety equipment as required by the U.S. Coast Guard and we strongly recommend ORC Category IV compliance.

9.3 During the start and finish of each race, each crewmember on board is required to wear a U.S. Coast Guard approved life preserver.

9.4 All boats shall be incompliance with the hosting clubs sailing instructions, and notice of race, at a minimum.

10.  PRIZES
                10.1 Prizes will be given as follows:
                1st. 2nd and 3rd places for each division.
                Best 3 out of 4 races to count.

11.  DISCLAIMER OF LIABILITY

11.1 Competitors participate in the races entirely at their own risk.  Scc RRS Rule 4, Decision to Race.  The organizing authority (OA) will not accept any liability for material damage or personal injury or death sustained in conjunction with or prior to, during or after the races.

11.2 Skippers are responsible for the conduct of their crew prior, during and after the event.

12.  INSURANCE

12.1 All boats must carry adequate Liability insurance which shall include a General Liability policy written by a responsible insurance company insuring the owner and any operators against liability for bodily injury in limits of not less than $300,000 and for property damage of not less than $100,000.
