2012 Notice of Race

1.  RULES

 

    1. The LSYA regatta will be governed by the ISAF/US Racing rules of Sailing (RRS).
    1. The edition of RRS to be used will be the edition effective in the year of the regatta.

 

2.  ENTRIES/ELGIBILITY

2.1    The regatta is open to self-righting sailing yachts 20 feet in length or greater.

2.2    Each yacht shall be handicapped under the Lake Michigan PHRF (LM-PHRF) rating system and shall have a current valid LM-PHRF rating certificate onboard.

2.3    In cases where a participating yacht does not have a current valid LM-PHRF rating certificate onboard the LSYA Race Committee will issue a provisional handicap.  Provisional handicaps are not subject to protest or request for redress.

3.  FEES

 

3.1    A fee payable of $100.00 to Yatch Scoring for yachts wishing to participate in the regatta.  A separate fee may apply for each hosting club, and there is an additional fee for the Trans Superior Race.

3.2    Completed regatta entry forms and required fees are to be submitted to the LSYA Race Committee no later that the date specified on the LSYA website and per instructions found on the LSYA website.

4.  SCHEDULE OF RACES

5.  SAILING INSTRUCTIONS

 

5.1    Each race will be hosted by a hosting yacht club.

5.2    The hosting yacht club Notice of Race and Sailing Instructions set out for each race will govern LSYA regatta participant yachts.


 

6.  CREW LIMITS

 

6.1    There is no minimum crew requirement per yacht.

6.2    Each yacht is required to submit a list of all crew including name, address, date of birth, place of birth, nationality and contact information.  The crew list must be submitted to the hosting club Race Committee no later than the skippers meeting of each race.

7.  EQUIPMENT

 

7.1    All yachts shall have a working engine.

7.2    While racing all yachts shall carry the minimum safety equipment as required by the U.S. Coast Guard.  Compliance with ORC Category IV is recommended but not required.

7.3    All participating yachts are subject to random safety inspection.

7.4    During the start of each race, and until a yacht has started, each crewmember onboard is required to wear a U.S. Coast Guard approved life preserver.

7.5    These requirements may be superseded by the requirements of the hosting club for each race.  If a yacht is in compliance with LSYA regatta requirements but does not meet the requirements of the hosting club the yacht will be scored under LSYA but may not be scored in the race relative to the hosting club results.

8.  SCORING

 

8.1    The low point scoring system outlined in Appendix A4 of the RRS will be used.

8.2    Best 4 of 5 races will be included in the total score calculation.

8.3    Refer to the LSYA website for information regarding divisions and division handicap split.

9.  PRIZES

9.1    Prizes will be given as follows:  1st, 2nd and 3rd places for each division.


 

10.  DISCLAIMER OF LIABILITY

10.1  Competitors participate in the races entirely at their own risk.  See RRS Rule 4, Decision to Race.  The organizing authority will not accept any liability for material damage or personal injury or death sustained in conjunction with or prior to, during or after the races.

10.2  Skippers are responsible for the conduct of their crew prior, during and after the event.

11.  INSURANCE

11.1  All yachts must carry adequate Liability insurance which shall include a General Liability policy written by a responsible insurance company insuring the owner and any operators against liability for bodily injury in limits of not less than $300,000 and for property damage of not less than $100,000.
